A small and extraordinarily lively academic community located in Halifax (Kjipuktuk), Nova Scotia, King’s is known nationally and internationally for its highly acclaimed interdisciplinary programs in the humanities, including its renowned Foundation Year Program, its professional programs in journalism and its fine arts programs in creative writing. King’s is a community where students, faculty, alumni and staff work to bring greater understanding, creativity, and compassion to the world.
The King’s Chapel Choir sings services in the Anglican tradition in the manner of Oxford and Cambridge Chapels. It is an auditioned ensemble of 12 to 16 singers, singing weekly services and termly concerts in the Anglican tradition. The Chapel Music area is also the administrative home of the King’s Chorus, a non-auditioned choral society of some 50 singers, including students of King’s and Dalhousie, faculty and staff of both institutions, alumni, and community members.
The Choral Coordinator reports to the Director of Chapel Music and has overall responsibility for the administration of the Chapel Choir and the King’s Chorus. The successful candidate will also work closely with the Chaplain and the Chapel Administrator. The University of King’s College Remote Work and Flex Hours Policy will apply. A large part of the duties may be carried out remotely, and some in-person presence will be required weekly – particularly during the main university year from September to April.
This is a part-time permanent position (FTE: 50%). The successful candidate will be compensated for 17.5 hours per week. In discussion with the Director of Chapel Music, they will have the ability to adjust the number of weekly hours to accommodate choir schedules and deadlines: In busier weeks during the Christmas and Easter seasons it may be necessary to work up to 20 hours, including some evenings and weekends. To balance, there will be weeks during which the time commitment is less than 17.5 hours.
The salary for this position is $20 hourly. A comprehensive group benefits package is offered including membership in the Nova Scotia Public Service Superannuation Plan (PSSP).
